After the first spray, By the Fireplace can be a little too much. Too smokey, too earthy, too masculine! And strong! But once you let it settle, miracles happen. It gets softer and sweeter on the skin. It is still woodsy and spicy enough but chestnut and vanilla come through nicely.
It is definitely a cosy cold-weather fragrance, representing its name well. It can be your loyal companion throughout the festive season. I find it very unique, it is woodsy and earthy with leather nuances yet comfy, warm and sweet. I personally really like it. I can see how it can get polarising especially on blotters; however, it is the one that will grow on you no matter if you are a man or a woman.
