Wavechild Room 1015: More Prime Time for Watermelon in 2024

Wavechild by Room 1015
Fruity Citrus
Jerome di Marino

Wavechild is sweet fruity aquatic yet has some body from coconut. It smells like a watermelon jolly rancher. A pretty great watermelon scent, actually. Wavechild is supposed to visualize and celebrate the surfing culture, chilling on a beach etc. and it does that to an extend.

To me, it has more of the fruity tropical aspect. I get a bit of Bali marine aquatic qualities but the fruit salad and pina coladas are much stronger. I do not mind at all. It is your modern L’Imperatrice by Dolce & Gabanna. It really is. Fun, likeable and easy. Nothing wrong with that. Total opposite to Cherry Punk. I really appreciate when a brand can pull it off, what a departure.

Wavechild will be used up quickly in my house. It is a type of scent that currently reflects my style and mood. I am still a stay home mum with two little beauties. Sometimes chilling out, sometimes running after them and this relaxed perfume is what I need. Especially now when the summer is slowly but surely approaching. I am starting to recognize, watermelon will be a thing this summer. I am going to get lucky.

Cherry Punk Room 1015: Shut The Front Door

Cherry Punk by Room 1015
Amber Spicy
Jerome Epinette

Guys, this is a strong stuff lingering very well. That is the first thing that comes to my mind. I smell cherry – leather – and musk. Unisex, sexy and decadent. It smells like a cheeky party.

I think we all have the image of the same chic wearing Cherry Punk. She is an edgy fierce platinum blond, slim and attractive with what the hell attitude. If you are a sucker for creamy dark cherry in fragrances, this is on another level. It is deeper, darker, more sensual than Tom Ford’s Lost Cherry. It is not a gourmand but the scent has an underlining sweetness.

Cherry Punk brings me back to England in 2009. I see the individualistic myself. Young wild and free. No money no class but pockets full of dreams and energy to fullfil them. With my black leather jacket on, bleached blond hair, heavy make-up partying with friends outside our apartment, smoking weed and thinking the world is ours. Nothing can beat that.

Based on that, Cherry Punk is an evening event scent and me, being a homey now 15 years later, I am okay with just having a small bottle. But, if you are a party animal and live up to that looks and attitude, Cherry Punk is yours. Just do it!

Gaultier Divine: The Sea Goddess

Gaultier Divine by Jean Paul Gaultier
Gourmand Floral, Floral Aquatic
Quentin Bisch

Jean Paul Gaultier’s perfumes are eccentric, Divine included. Gaultier Divine is gold Amphitrite, the marine Greek goddess.

Divine has not gained much popularity yet, but I actually really like this perfume. It is hard to characterize it hence more perfume families. It has aquatic fruity notes together with a solid floral heart based on edible ground. Is it strictly gourmand? No. Salty marine only? Not quite. A bit of floral fruity? Kind of. It is all of the above, cooked well together.

Gaultier Divine is a melt of watermelon together with lily and y-lang based on salt and sweetness. It is a candy-like scent so if you do not like sweet, stay away from Divine. I see similarities with Levante by Nobile 1942. They are both vacation aromas. It can be a challenge to wear them out of the blue, universally. There must be a time and place; and for that reason, I suppose a travel size is enough.

Fame Intense Paco Rabanne: Empty Hall

Fame Intense by Paco Rabanne
Floral Woody Musk
Alberto Morillas, Dora Baghriche, Fabrice Pellegrin and Marie Salamagne

Fame by Paco Rabanne is followed by Fame Intense which is meant to be a more sensual, deeper, party version of the original. I am neither a huge supporter of the mango-centric original nor impressed by the Intense one. The OG at least has a fresh sense of mango which makes it playful and unique. This new release does not have a character, nothing sets it apart from the crowd.

I do not think it will have as many fans as the original. It lacks the initial blast, energetic fuse Fame automatically comes with. I think there is still bit of mango although is not listed; jasmine, incense and sandalwood. I would say it is a jasmine and sandalwood fragrance, pretty usual combo. Incense is toned-down. Do not expect the power and intensity we know from Amouage.

Fame Intense can serve as a base scent or if you are looking for something basic. If I got it as a gift, I would probably find a way to use it but as a release of 2024 by Paco Rabanne I sadly find it underwhelming.

Q by Dolce & Gabbana: Shockingly Smart Aroma

Q by Dolce & Gabbana
Aromatic Fruity
Daphné Bugey

First of all, I hate the bottle. Tacky, not cool at all. I think I have been avoiding Q for a while because of that. So not fair. Lol. But then I realized, there is a cherry note in the fragrance and I knew I needed to give Q a go. And I am glad I did.

Things seem to be simple at first but soon you know, it is not an easy perfume.
It opens with lemon and blood orange, then goes into cherry with heliotrope which smells after sweet almonds. What?! And in the base, fresh and sharp cedar wood. It looks like Daphné Bugey combined impossible. And guess what! The result is stunning. It may sound strange but the citrus aromatic part mixes incredibly well the gourmand Griotte part. And together it manages to stay crisp and transparent underlined with cedar. Q is a clever scent that offers more than expected.

Eden Sparkling Lychee 39: The Coolest Kid in Your High School

Eden Sparkling Lychee 39 by Kayali
Floral Fruity
Gabriela Chelariu

A sweet juicy explodium of litchi, citron and red apple. It smells edible. Hmmm, the sweetness. It is a very sweet fragrance. It has a plenty of sugar to begin with, together with vanilla, amplifying the sweetness. There are also floral notes to balance its juvenility. Violet in particular which creates powdered texture. It leads to a sweet floral dry-down and decent lasting power.

Not bad as expected for a floral fruity. It is a lovely pick me up scent. I am glad I have tried it and have my 10ml and it will stay there. I am not saying it smells exactly like Escada Fragrances but it kinds of leads into that direction. It is good for what it is. A luxury gift for your teenage daughter. Another solid release from Kayali.

Q Eau de Parfum Intense: A Wannabe Lost Cherry by TF

Q Eau de Parfum Intense by Dolce & Gabbana
Amber Floral
Daphné Bugey

Q EDP Intense is of course a flanker of the original Q. An intense, elixir or parfum version is usually a more concentrated, sensual, deeper fragrance with the DNA of the original juice.

I normally like the uniqueness, easy-going versatile and fresh nature of the original fragrances. Most of the time, I do not need more intensity and sweetness. Q intense is a classic example where I am over the moon with the OG; however, ambivalent towards the intense.

Q Intense smells like Griotte in the opening which is a dark cherry liquor. It is accompanied with heliotrope and amber. Overall, it smells fruity, nutty, creamy and sweet. But at the same time, it does not have the intensity some of the nighttime deep black cherry scents have like La Petite Robe Noire by Guerlain or Lovefest Burning Cherry 48 by Kayali. It is a fruity-sweet cherry fragrance with a bit of a base which does not stay straight and strong. It is a sort of wannabe Lost Cherry by Tom Ford but it struggling to get there.

Neroli Portofino: Trendsetting Good Vibes Cologne

Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford
Citrus Aromatic
Rodrigo Flores-Roux

Neroli Portofino, is a classic from 2011, a typical male-style cologne with a presence and lasting power. It is hefty on bergamot, lavender, orange blossom, neroli and ambrette. It is hard to find someone who dislikes it on a man. Me being a cheerleader of citrus aromatics on women, I naturally adore this scent. I bought my travel size in March, and now we have the beginning of April and I am almost done. The juice is in a gorgeous turquoise bottle and there have been many more with different nuances released since. I think Costa Azzura, Mandarino di Amalfi are popular, to name a few.

I enjoy wearing Neroli Portofino. It gives good vibes and is elegant but let’s face it, the price is decadent. How much would you spend on a stylish cologne? What is the price for one wear? Look for deals on discount shops or second hand bottles from fellow crazy perfume enthusiasts. Although the fragrance is wonderful, I am not going to splash my hard earned cash on a big bottle retail. I am fine with my travel. When it is gone, it is gone forever.

Aphrodite Soki London: The Beach, Sunshine and You

Aphrodite by Soki London
Floral Fruity
Ruth Mastenbroek

Aphrodite was created by Sophie King a.k.a. Soki London, an indie brand and internet personality. After Empress, it is her second perfume. It is a completely different fragrance to Empress but I see Soki’s signature in it.

It is strong first of all. Highly concentrated. The juice is visibly oily. I wore it during a cool spring day and it made me feel nauseous. It is a niche smelling aroma, not for everybody again. I sniff mango, lotus and palm tree, not so much marine notes and coconut. It is heavy on the fruity and green earthy aspect.

Nonetheless, I realized it blends in better in hot weather. We had 31°C here in Prague, Czechia and I sprayed Aphrodite lightly and it was a pleasant companion. It cannot hide its tropical nature. I say time and place are everything in perfumery, and it applies to Aphrodite even more than to some other fragrances. I am happy I waited for a sunny day outside and did not judge Aphrodite too quickly. If you are looking for a unique islander forest-like scent, Aphrodite is not a bad option.
