Mojave Ghost Byredo

Amber Floral

This is my second fragrance from the Swedish brand Byredo. The first one is the super popular Gypsy Water that I enjoy more in the air as a room scent rather than something that you wear. Mojave Ghost does not even make a good room scent! It has been compared to Chance Eau Tendre which I am not a fan of either; so probably, I should have known better. Oh, well.

There is an interesting note of sapodilla in the opening which is a special type of fruit, rather dry, almost nutty. It does not work well with me. And later, the combination of magnolia, violet and sandalwood. Considering I do not enjoy any of these, I really don’t know what I was thinking. This is a disaster!

On the other hand, the scent is pretty unique and unisex, you cannot deny that. It has been inspired by calming nature of The Mojave Desert in California.

All in all, I am sad to realise that many niche brands do not work for me in my everyday routine, and so far, Byredo included.

Mojave Ghost is a soft woody floral-fruity aroma, smells niche and does not work.

La Tulipe Byredo

La Tulipe is very fresh and floral, almost too sharp. It stays close to the skin, people won’t notice straight away that you are wearing a perfume. The fragrance smells old fashioned which can be either positive or negative, depends if you fancy soupy smells but it is not timeless nor unique. If you combine unisex L’Eau Serge Lutens with soft Wild Bluebell by Jo Malone, you may end up with La Tulipe. It’s for a young traditional lady who wants her fragrance to complement her very gently. It’s like casual fashion, still ok but you don’t want to appear that you tried too hard.

La Tulipe is there and is not there. Unspectacular! 40/100

Byredo Gypsy Water

Gypsy Water was inspired by the nomadic life of gypsies around the world. And it does its job, in this respect, very well. It does reflect the free-spirited nomad life. You’ll find numerous woody notes inside, spices, citrus and interestingly, the composition smells somewhat soggy. Nevertheless, it’s quite soft after all. Gypsy Water doesn’t suggest anything, it lays in the background and simply is. I like that. It’s suitable for the daytime, any season.

It’s important to point out that Gypsy Water is a unisex perfume and I can see why. Although I think it fits women more owing to its softness, it can be worn by men too, especially those who aren’t fans of fresh fragrances.

It’s the first time that I’ve bought an oil instead of a liquid fragrance. It’s a small tube with a very concentrated scent inside. You simply put it on your wrist or a place of your choice and massage it in using circular motions. The oil will stay close to your skin significantly long. I personally like the consistency and application.

Gypsy water is a unique, soft and woody fragrance. For everyone who strives for a natural companion. 90/100
