Gaultier Divine: The Sea Goddess

Gaultier Divine by Jean Paul Gaultier
Gourmand Floral, Floral Aquatic
Quentin Bisch

Jean Paul Gaultier’s perfumes are eccentric, Divine included. Gaultier Divine is gold Amphitrite, the marine Greek goddess.

Divine has not gained much popularity yet, but I actually really like this perfume. It is hard to characterize it hence more perfume families. It has aquatic fruity notes together with a solid floral heart based on edible ground. Is it strictly gourmand? No. Salty marine only? Not quite. A bit of floral fruity? Kind of. It is all of the above, cooked well together.

Gaultier Divine is a melt of watermelon together with lily and y-lang based on salt and sweetness. It is a candy-like scent so if you do not like sweet, stay away from Divine. I see similarities with Levante by Nobile 1942. They are both vacation aromas. It can be a challenge to wear them out of the blue, universally. There must be a time and place; and for that reason, I suppose a travel size is enough.

Scandal A Paris Jean Paul Gaultier

Chypre Floral
Perfumer: Daphne Bugey

Scandal A Paris launched in 2019 as a lighter version of Scandal. There is more fruits and flowers, less fixative strong base notes.

The main notes are pear, jasmine and honey but the honey note is toned down. Not surprisingly, it is less heavy than the original, made for a spring day. I personally think that there are better fragrances for spring. I associate the Scandal range with a night-time and have no desire to wear it during the day. On top of that, there is a part that feels a bit scratchy when it dries.

A fresher, floral Scandal. Good for the time when we eagerly await spring after long winter.

Scandal Jean Paul Gaultier

Chypre Floral
Perfumer: Christophe Raynaud, Daphne Bugey, Fabrice Pellegrin

Jean Paul Gaultier got tired of making new and new flankers of Classique; and therefore, came up with Scandal in 2017. We do not have the full female torso but only the bottom part – stunningly sexy legs. The bottle is again catchy, seductive and shocking – I love it!

It is a modern smell, balsamic, the opening is quite orange-like. There is honey, gardenia, beeswax, caramel and patchouli. The advertising is a bomb; and that is why, you expect something so scandalous; but in this respect, you will be disappointed. Scandal comes across very sweet; yes, but at the same time, I get a picture of a girl next door in my head.

The note profile is inviting and cozy. The fragrance is friendly and approachable, very wearable. The best would be for winter nights but there is no limit, of course.

Scandal is strong on honey, little bit naughty but no huge scandal is going on here.

La Belle Jean Paul Gaultier

Amber Vanilla
Perfumer: Quentin Bisch, Sonia Constant

La Belle is one of the newest flankers of Classique by Jean Paul Gaultier from 2019. Pear and vanilla give La Belle its sweetness and sultriness while it gets its freshness from vetiver.

It is simple yet beautiful. It is more fall and winter fragrance but still quite youthful and innocent. It is not an instant love for me. I am not going to run out and buy it. Nevertheless, it is easy to like and there is something intriguing about it. I see why so many people love it. The scent is an approachable night-timer without going heavy or over the top.

La Belle is the Beautiful, not the Beast. An “easy to reach for”, delicate night-time perfume.

Orange Blossom & Vanilla Fragrances

Floral, Amber Floral, Amber Vanilla

If you are familiar with my blog, you know I love orange blossom and vanilla combinations in my perfumes. I know already a lot of fragrances with this note profile and I keep comparing one to another in my posts. Hence I thought it would be more practical to do a run down of orange blossom and vanilla perfumes in one video. Orange blossom and vanilla together create a lush, exotic, sweet combo that I am fascinated about. I have picked seven scents and two honorable mentions. I also give recommendations which climate and time of the day they are suitable for. Relax and enjoy the ride 🙂 xoxo

Classique Jean Paul Gaultier

Amber Floral
Perfumer: Jacques Cavallier

Fifteen years ago, I smelled Classique in Sephora and I didn’t understand the hype about it. I found it too strong, too mature. Today, I tried the scent again and I am wowed. I am glad I took chances and rediscovered this complex womanly smell. Many different versions have been created; nonetheless, I am still in love with the original.

The first vibe that you get is an expensive hotel soup. The deeper you get, the more you start picturing a woman, a lover, a wife, a mother. And then you think! it smells like me, you, the lady 25+ next door! The bottle summarizes the scent well. It’s a female body in all its dimensions at all time – a staple for women. This is evident especially when the scent dries down. It’s sweet – not sickly sweet but soapy luxuriously sweet.

Sometimes we just have to grown to appreciate certain things in life perfumes included. My love for perfumes is a journey. I change my mind about scent over a period of time and I guess so do you. You develop, your taste changes, your life changes. Experience brings different points of view. It’s good to go back and reassess.

A women signature, my personal love at second sight. 100/100

So Scandal! Jean Paul Gaultier

So Scandal! does have the wow effect associated with JGP perfumes. It is refined, sweet yet sophisticated. The fragrance is very strong on raspberry. A milk note is very interesting and smoothes the whole composition.

The overall notes are raspberry, tuberose and milk at the top, and then jasmine and orange blossom as a base. It is definitely a charming floral combination.

My favourite night scent is Hypnotic Poison by Dior. So Scandal! is significantly lighter, has a weaker presence and lasting power. On the other hand, you can go bold with So Scandal! and spray a lot without worrying you’re gonna poison your mates. It is a refreshing one to have in your collection.

So Scandal! is too sexy for white colour workdays. Ideal for a fun party girl who is still on a hunt for Mr Right. 70/100
