Simply: A Chick Fragrance for Young Professionals

Simply Jil Sander Eau de Toilette by Jil Sander
Chypre Floral
Christophe Raynaud

The majority of Jil Sander fragrances for women are stylish, bold I say almost masculine. I recognise the edge they bring to the market yet it is not something I would personally enjoy wearing on a regular basis. They are musky, powdery, and fit for the corporate.

Simply Eau de Toilette is slightly softer, friendlier, and ready to be pulled off by romantic ladies. It is musky, juicy with pear, powdery due to violet and edgy thanks to tuberose. We cannot forget about the huge dose of leather which brings out the typical Jil Sander forwardness.

I cannot stop the feeling that I have smelt the scent before. Maybe not one particular moment, it smells like a mixture of many. Irresistible by Givenchy the musky pear EDP comes to my mind. Also, Donna Valentino has a similar straightforward leather base. Simply holds the Sander DNA, it is a solid perfume yet easily replaceable.

Jil Sander: Pushes Boundaries and Sets New Standards

Jil by Jil Sander
Amber Floral
Bruno Jovanovic, Olivier Polge

Jil is a perfume from 2009 made by a minimalist fashion designer Jil Sander. I first smelled it many years ago on my best friend Sandra. She got it as a gift from her mother. As far as I remember, it smelled strong, night-time, sexy, almost masculine. Of course, I asked her what she was wearing and she answered Jil by Jil Sander. Wow. With that in mind, I got my hands on a sample years later; and surprisingly, I still love it. Unfortunately, the fragrance has been discontinued; otherwise, I would consider buying a full bottle.

Jil is a lavender, pink pepper dominant scent with creamy heliotrope and orris in the heart and sensual vanilla, musk and amber in the base. I would wear it during fall and winter, day and night, it does not really matter. It is not a girly girl but rather a badass woman who wears this. A bold aroma for sure but somehow still bearable and not that difficult to wear. I think it is the lavender that makes it softer and even calming in a way.

The fragrance is marketed toward women but I feel that it is almost genderless. Considering the launch year, it is brave for Mister Jovanovic and Polge to come up with something vampy and underground. When Jil was still on the market, the price was very favourable. The scent reflects the price. It is a great scent in terms of originality and versatility; however, I recognise it is neither a niche nor luxurious designer brand. It can smell a little bit cheap and the projection and lasting power are not endless.

Perfumes for And Just Like That TV characters

I am a big cheerleader of And Just Like That TV series and I think it would be fun to match perfumes to the main characters: Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda. I know that Samantha is not on the show anymore but let’s keep her here for the sake of this post. There is not much said about perfumes on the show so I presume that the Sex and the City characters are not fragrance fanatics and simply wear what is available and trendy. Sit back and enjoy my fragrance choices.

The main character Carrie represents endless romanticism, elegance and big city vibrations. Therefore, I think lively perfumes like Burberry Her or L’Imperatrice 3 by Dolce & Gabanna private line would do it for her. She is also confident and womanly and that could be covered by the one and only Delina by Parfums de Marly.

The next character Charlotte is ultra-feminine and cute hence I have Pour Femme by Dolce & Gabanna in store for her. In addition, she brings happiness to people around her and takes part in healthy activities like running thus Light Blue by Dolce & Gabanna could be also a hit. Due to her affiliation to an upper class, I suggest she could also wear Gabrielle by Chanel.

Samantha is a woman with balls who enjoys attention from the opposite sex. Very Sexy by Victoria’s Secret ticks the box. Moreover, she is independent as hell which she can express by wearing Jil by Jil Sander. And lastly, she likes to spend her money and indulge in luxury. I cannot think of anything better than Baccarat Rouge 540 by Maison Francis Kurkdjian for her.

Miranda is smart and practical. She is not going to enjoy anything too sweet or floral. Stella Tocca would be a good “pick me up” casual fragrance for her. She can also wear Chance by Chanel daily to work and White Patchouli by Tom Ford for lunches with the girls.

I have chosen three perfumes for each character based on their personality traits and I also wanted to have a price variety – from cheapies to luxury goods. Please note that by any means I do not claim that the characters wear these perfumes on the show, it is just for your entertainment.

Sporty Jil Sander

There are more shades to Sporty. It can be sporty as hell, fresh and energetic but at the same time very fruity, rich and creamy. If you like notes like green apple, mandarin or peach, you‘re going to love Sporty. The heart is overpowered by lovely peony and edgy black currant. The dry-down is a little bit deeper – you can find notes like ginger, tonka bean and musk. Together, it’s a wonderful symphony which doesn’t have an ending. Seriously, the lasting power is enormous.

Where to wear? To hit the city anytime when you feel spontaneuos and carefree. It’s a city perfume, almost futuristic. Don’t be afraid to wear it during the winter, it’ll give you a great vibe on a frosty dark morning 🙂

It resembles Downtown by Calvin Klien or Delicious by DKNY.

Good vibrations, harmony and love, that is Sporty Jil Sander. 90/100

Jil Jil Sander

Let me present you my beautiful friend Sandra who I have known since high school. Feeling elegant but comfortable at the same time is important to her more than anything. She loves beauty products; perfumes the most. They take her to her own fantasy world, bring back special memories, and pick her up every day.

Let Sandra present you her signature scent Jil Sander and the exiting story behind it:

“There are many reasons why I love Jil Sander. It brings back the wonderful memories of my independent hard-working mother. I smelled that scent every day when she was picking me up from kindergarten. This scent reminds me of safety and unconditional love. When I grew up, I recalled the scent and I asked my mother for a name. As soon as I bought it and put it on me, I felt in my element. I felt completed. I knew straight away that Jil Sander is and always will be my signature scent. It’s sweet yet very feminine, little bit spicy. I’m sure that some people would consider Jil Sander to be a night fragrance but I wear it every single day. Yes, it’s strong and sexy but it’s exactly what I need – a fragrance which would highlight my purposeful personality.

@all: Which scent does remind you of your mother/childhood?
