Mon Parfum Cristal: Candied Rose Petals Filled With Nostalgia

Mon Parfum Cristal by M. Micallef
Floral Fruity Gourmand
Jean-Claude Astier

After my poor experience with Micallef’s Ylang in Gold, I have not experimented with this house anymore. Until recently! I bumped into videos of Laura Sparkles. She is a huge fan of Micallef and has even backup bottles of some of his pieces.

As a floral fruity gourmand, Mon Parfum Cristal caught my eye. I have done more research on it and did not really form an opinion. Some perfume lovers describe it as a sticky sweet toffee scent, and some quite the opposite as a posh vintage rose aroma.

And truly, now I have the bottle with Swarovski crystals, I can say that both opinions are more than just. It is a sugar-filled warm aroma yet elevated with gorgeous florals. The toffee, cinnamon and vanilla create an edible melting pot to die for. The rose is there and together with pink pepper, they are lifting the spirit of the composition. I get slight retro vibes too.

In 2013 when this perfume was launched were not many fragrances like it. Mon Parfum Cristal is a bottle of sexy juice but chic and lavish as well. It has a syrupy character but somehow the perfume manages to stay airy and transparent. Like a crystal itself! It is addictive today as well as had to be ten years ago.

I like to put it on when I go out in the evening or for a special occasion during the day. I feel pretty and approachable, people can smell me but it is not too much. As much as is Cristal easy to pull off, I would not recommend it for work on a daily basis. It is more the “It quality niche scent” for a remarkable day.

Ylang is a creamy, coconut and vanilla scent, rich one, out there. I also smell peach in it. I don’t usually wear scents like that so it was quite a challenge to get used to it. It’s been the fourth day I’ve been wearing Ylang and I must admit that the first day was difficult. It was cloying, I didn’t feel at ease.  Today, it’s better and I can appreciate the richness, uniqueness and the holiday vibe. But still, it’s not something I would wear on a regular basis. I reckon it’s more for a special day, all dressed up and with a full makeover. It doesn’t seem to be heavy at the beginning but later on, oh my goodness, the stuff gets musky.

Ylang is a Goddess, a gourmand for an extrovert lady. 30/100
