Black Opium Over Red: Electric Sensation

Black Opium Over Red by Yves Saint Laurent
Floral Fruity Gourmand
Honorine Blanc, Marie Salamagne, Nathalie Lorson and Olivier Cresp

It has been 10 years since the release of the original Black Opium. It was a coffee vanilla gourmand with youthful pear at the top. It was an instant hit due to the introduction of coffee in the designer world of fragrances and a decadent clubbing nature. If you are a long-term fan of fragrances, it was not, in fact, as carnal as advertised. It smelled like sweetened Frappuccino with cream and topping. And it was dreamy and delicious, no doubt about that! But sinful? No way! It tasted like a treat kid gets after he did some good. Many flankers have been launched since. God bless me, I do not even know how many.

Over Red is the newest one and it vibes with me the same way as the OG. It is a juicy bubble gum-like cherry with a ton of vanilla. Funny and flirty! No sex drugs & rock and roll. It is almost innocent and similar to the original (2014) but instead of pear, you get a pronounced fruitiness and electricity. Because I like cherry in my perfumes, Over Red fills me with good vibes and energy, a strange feeling of comfort, if you want.

Black Opium is one of a kind hence so many flankers. We can argue if that is really necessary, but from the marketing perspective, they clearly sell well. All the black opiums are generally likeable. People got used to seeing them in stores. It is not bad having one of them in your collection. They certainly will not do any bad. I wonder what fruit are we getting next time? Watermelon?

Q by Dolce & Gabbana: Shockingly Smart Aroma

Q by Dolce & Gabbana
Aromatic Fruity
Daphné Bugey

First of all, I hate the bottle. Tacky, not cool at all. I think I have been avoiding Q for a while because of that. So not fair. Lol. But then I realized, there is a cherry note in the fragrance and I knew I needed to give Q a go. And I am glad I did.

Things seem to be simple at first but soon you know, it is not an easy perfume.
It opens with lemon and blood orange, then goes into cherry with heliotrope which smells after sweet almonds. What?! And in the base, fresh and sharp cedar wood. It looks like Daphné Bugey combined impossible. And guess what! The result is stunning. It may sound strange but the citrus aromatic part mixes incredibly well the gourmand Griotte part. And together it manages to stay crisp and transparent underlined with cedar. Q is a clever scent that offers more than expected.

La Petite Robe Noire Légère Ma Robe Hippie-Chic

La Petite Robe Noire Légère Ma Robe Hippie-Chic by Guerlain

La Petite Robe Noire is a line which has been confidently established on the market for more than two decades. Ma Robe Hippe-Chic is a flanker of the original La Petite Robe Noire from 2012. Its concentration is a lighter Eau de Parfum hence “Légère”. The main notes more or less stay the same but the overall effect is airier, day-appropriate, and summer-spring suitable.

What I really like about Ma Robe Hippie-Chic is the bright juicy dominant cherry in the opening. Rose comes across as dewy and modern. Black tea is also amplified in my opinion and creates a beautiful silk veil during the entire experience. Raspberry is adding a bright sweetness, licorice is still there but not overly powerful.

I wore the fragrance outside in winter which was not ideal though as it did not have the strength to cut through the cold. All in all, it is a successful flanker that most of the time beats the original.
